on creating ...

Field Notes Studio was never meant to be one thing.

It began with photography, a way of noticing light, of paying attention to place, of learning how to see. Over time, something shifted. The images began to open into stories, the stories into memory, and memory into imagination. What once felt separate no longer does.

This space is not a departure from photography, but a deeper integration of it. It is a recognition that the act of seeing does not end with the image. It continues through writing, through story, and through the quiet courage to create something that did not exist before.

What began as a practice of observation has become a practice of return.

Field Notes Studio is now devoted to that unfolding.

At its center is Cheval Blanc, a body of work that moves between the real and the imagined, between what was lived and what is still becoming. It is a story carried through images, words, and feeling. A space where intuition takes form, and where the line between memory and imagination softens.

This work does not exist in isolation. As it continues to take shape, it also opens outward, creating space for others to return to their own creative practice. Through image, writing, and travel, Field Notes Studio becomes not only a place of creation, but a place of invitation. A reminder that imagination is not something reserved for a few, but something we can all step back into.

This is not a fixed place. It is a living one.

A place to remember, to imagine, and to create.

And perhaps most importantly, a place that offers permission.

To trust what is arriving, to follow what calls, and to dream without fully knowing where it leads.

Sailboat silhouettes glide across calm waters during a golden sunset over the ocean horizon.

“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.”
